Summer in Brevard

We have white squirrels in Brevard. We have grey squirrels too, but they don't seem to get as much attention as the white ones. I guess it is unusual and it makes me laugh a little every time I hear a squeal of excitement and see someone 'that's not from around here' fumble around in their purse or pack for their camera in hopes of catching a shot of one scampering around town. Everywhere has to be famous for something I guess; we have white squirrels and great MUSIC.
I was just on the site for the Heart of Brevard http://www.brevardnc.org/ and read about the 5th Annual White Squirrel Festival that is coming up Memorial Day Weekend, May 24/25, 2008. This is really a great event and one you shouldn't miss if you happen to be in the area over Memorial Day. During the festival there is a hilarious Squirrel Box Derby that gives kids and adults alike a chance to design, build, and race non-motorized vehicles down Jailhouse Hill; and 18 FREE concerts going on throughout the weekend. This year Edwin McCain will be the headline musician and the last person playing on Sunday night. Go to the site and check out the other bands and happenings of the weekend. It is a fantastic time to see what Brevard has to offer, really get a feel for the community, have some fun, and enjoy some great music.
If music is your thing, you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to come to Brevard during the summer. The world renowned Brevard Music Center is proud to announce that on June 27th BMC Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor, Keith Lockhart will be inaugurated and lead the Brevard Music Center Orchestra with cellist Yo-Yo Ma in this season's opening night. Amazing.
